The Alternative Information and Development Centre and The People's Dialogue presents an international conference on The Crisis of Civilisation. Date: 18 - 20 October 2010 Location: Gauteng "By the end of the 20th century capitalism had evolved into a system that was...geared to rapacious accumulation..., relevantly independent from its local and national roots. Global financial expansion was occurring on top of a world economy that was stagnating at the level of production, creating a more unstable and more viciously inegalitarian order, dominated by neo liberal economics and financial bubbles". (J. Bellamy Foster) The conference builds on various progressive initiatives, seminars and conferences analysing the global crisis. The conference will develop an analysis of the global crisis focusing on climate as a lens through which other political struggles can be supported. The conference will initiate a programme of work flowing from the Dakar World Social Forum that ensures African popular movements and civil society activists will deepen and advance their analyses. The conference is being organised by South African-based movements, supported by their counterparts in Southern Africa and Latin America.
